The idea of the CrankCookieShortfilmdays first came up in October 2005 by students of the University of Passau. After a planning phase of several months
and more than 150 film entries the CrankCookieShortfilmdays were carried out for the first time in June 2006. The idea was to bring together film makers, cineasts, people from Passau and students. The organisers produced a diverse, four-day long festival programme to make this happen. More than forty short films have been screened within eight different events during the four days of the festival. Beside the short films there were also two screenings of the movies "Tears of kali" by Andreas Maschal and "Der Todesking" by Jörg Buttgereit. The winners of the first CrankCookieShortfilmdays were presented by the Jury at the Closing Night Gala. The audience had the chance to make up their own minds about the quality of the awarded films.
At each event of the different agenda items were film makers present who talked about details, tricks, secrets and stories surrounding the process of producing their films. The audience also had the chance to become active participants of the event through diverse workshops about the basics of film production.
